I don’t speak about legal issues from other places cuz I’m a local cop & I barely know what I’m doing let alone what others are doing. I am not, however, blind to the awful history/current events of my profession. I’m not to blame but I am responsible. And we work daily for good
And I work with amazing people. My colleagues are awesome. They taught me the job. And I’m learning more every day. But I focus more & more on this: if we didn’t have a badge & a gun, how would we approach this interaction with our neighbor?
And then do that first.
This approach is probably stupid but I’m not treating my neighbors like an enemy. Holy god is there violence. I get that. That’s actually easy even if I tinkle my pants. That’s clear cut. But it’s the everything else that I focus on, and, man, there ain’t no faking it. It’s close
