Me, writing an email:

I'm using an exclamation point so you know I'm friendly and excited! But now I'm using a period so that you know I'm not crazy. Here's another sentence with a period as a buffer, proving my normalness. Thanks so much!

There's a problem with how America considers its cities. Too often, residents of major cities are considered "coastal elites" (if they're white) or denizens of crime-ridden hellholes (if they're not). There's an idea that cities don't represent "real America."
And because city dwellers are written off electorally, they can be written off in the national narrative constructed by journalists and politicians.
This goes for city dwellers in more red states also. Members of a state's big cities can be looked down upon by those in the rest of the state. Citizens of city X don't represent the real concerns of the state, conventional wisdom goes. (Think St. Louis, for example.)

Steve King is holding a town hall, and is spending the top half of it insisting he is not racist. He accuses people who say he is racist of being Orwellian.

"There's know way we can be a constitutional republic if we don't have freedom of speech, thought, and assembly."
King reiterates that his only mistake was giving an interview to The New York Times. Says he was specifically talking about "Western civilization" when he asked "white supremacy, white nationalist" became bad terms.
King blames Kevin McCarthy for taking him off committees. However, he says this is the best time possible for it to happen, as Republicans are not in the majority.

Here's some good news the media didn't cover. Saudi oil fields get blown up...and Trump didn't send in the military to fight Saudi wars like Americans are their mercenaries.
I don't even pay attention to the news, I don't even have cable at any of my spots. And my mentor cofounded. But of course I was watching oil/prices/drone attacks, the ROI, etc.
I pick and choose issues...
Anti endless and UNfruitful overseas adventures is one of them...

Some random thoughts on #writing:

Having a big vocabulary is never enough. You have to know precisely when and how to unleash your vocabulary, leaving the room for ambiguity as little as possible. This way, you can articulate your points without appearing to be showing off.
It's also crucial to be able to construct sentences that flow -- and that's not an easy job to do for long, complex ones -- for only with sentences that flow can a writer truly engage her readers. That takes a lot of practice on top of a good understanding of the English syntax.
Lastly, ditch all of the Latin-derived artificial conventions that your English teachers might have tried to drill into your brain, like: "Always use active voice", "Never end a sentence with a preposition", etc. No good writers bother with those nonsense.

Whenever I'm in an extended period of not writing I am always deeply, deeply mystified about how the hell to start again. Since I'm just now easing out of that period, here are notes to a future self who will need it:
1. Give yourself time. You know this part pretty well. The thing is, it's not just plonking down and beating yourself up mentally until the words squirt out. It's actually being generous with that time. And believing you deserve it.
This was a huge problem for me last year. I would tell myself 'write for two hours on Saturday' but because I had written in SO LONG, two hours was not enough. I couldn't lower it any further - nor could I be happy with the few sentences I managed in that time.
