I've gotten lots of calls from media covering Katie Hill's story. Amazing to see baseline knowledge that spreading nonconsensual pornography is criminal most places.

But what we must also discuss is the CIVIL LIABILITY of the MOFOs who published it.
In other words, she can sue the f*ck out of the far right media that had the audacity to peddle her intimate pictures.

We've worked hard fighting for laws so victims of nonconsensual porn can take matters into their own hands in civil court.
The government has a monopoly on who gets charged with a crime and when.
But in civil court, a victim of nonconsensual porn can start a case themselves and sue for removal, assert their copyright, and sue for money.
In most cases, defendants in these cases are "judgment-proof" and don't have money to compensate a victim for the damage caused.

In the case of DeepState, it's a different story. They should pay for what they've done to Hill.
California has a particularly strong civil remedy. Victims of nonconsensual porn in CA can file using a pseudonym (futile for Katie at this point), can get a TRO stopping distribution (ditto, but still symbolically important). And they can sue for damages.
Also, an unusual bonus is that the court can grant attorney's fees and costs to the plaintiff if she prevails.

A lot of people (including Katie) are saying the nonconsensual porn laws are a mess. And I agree some are. But 5 years ago, only three states had them.

It's massive and rare that in such a short time, these new sexual privacy laws swept the nation. The world has changed thanks to outrageous efforts to adjust social attitude by @ccrinitiative @ma_franks @hollyccri @withoutconsent.
One more thing about suing the publishers. Sure, people will call me a greedy lawyer. But the fact is that for centuries, using our civil courts is how you not only shift wealth from wrongdoers to the wealthy but also how you DETER bad behavior by the powerful.
If you follow me here, you know I'm the biggest enemy of Section 230 to exist. (er, tied with @neilturkewitz). This is one of those instances, though, where the platforms made the publishing decision to post these images. They are NOT immune from liability. And should pay dearly.
@CCRInitiative @ma_franks @HoLLyCCRi @WithoutConsent aaaaach. was typing too fast and dumb. OBV these folks should be in the above tweet!! @daniellecitron @endtherevenge @elisadamico
