One of these days we need to stop tolerating people saying Donald Trump is awful but Ronald Reagan was great. Please, close the church of St. Ronald of the Gutter, because he really was one of the worst presidents in modern history. Much of what is wrong today is thanks to Reagan

Reagan weaponized white supremacy by appealing to the Klan with a clear dog whistle. He gave a states' rights speech at Neshoba County Fair. Think about that. What happened in Neshoba County that makes a states rights speech a clarion call to the Klan?

He promoted supply-side economics with irresponsible tax cuts that ballooned the deficit and used those cuts to justify cuts in the safety net.

He proved that the military budget can be bloated with a surfeit of money while simultaneously demanding cuts that affect the poor and infrastructure investment and offering tax cuts to spend us out of options.

He aided the Afhanis fighting Russia who then turned on us to harbor bin Laden, al Queda.

He cut and run in Lebanon, convincing bin Laden that an attack on the US is all it would take to get us to cut and run from the Middle East.

He empowered the Iranian regime by trading arms for hostages. This made Americans in the ME far more unsafe as they became the currency of getting weapons. Hostage-taking rose under Reagan and declined with the end of IRan-Contra.

Reagan prolonged the time the hostages held by Iran remained hostages for his own ego. Carter negotiated their release. Reagan promised Iran weapons if they did not release them until he took office. For this alone, he should burn in hell, if only hell existed.

He ignored Congress and used proceeds from selling arms to IRan in spite of the embargo to arm the Contra death squads that murdered people including a group of nuns. Much of the instability and corruption in Central America today is due to Reagan.

He ignored AIDS allowing thousands to die.

So what do we have Reagan to thank for?
* Deficit spending to force cuts in safety net
* al Queda
* Central America mess
* white supremacy
* Deficits
* Criminality in Executive

Then let's add the criminalization of being mentally ill, the loss of infrastructure for mental illness treatment.

He cut HUD by 60% and HUD money was funneled to consultants, not to buildings and then promoted the homeless by choice lie that people still assert

People born after Reagan do not know that homelessness was not always a crisis, that at one time the streets were not full of camps of homeless people and mall parking lots were not filled with people living in cars. That is Reagan's legacy.

A person could spend eight years documenting the damage Ronald Reagan caused and not capture it all, after all, they are only one person and he had an entire administration of bigots, grifters, and thieves.

If I ever write a book, I think it would be "1000 Reasons Ronnie Raygun Was a Shit President"

The road from Reagan to Trump doesn't have a curve on it.
