The lack of ground truth is a potential reason why research has focused on social bots instead of human agents. In our study, we use rare ground truth data from the 2012 South Korean presidential election where an agent was caught in the act and revealed campaign secrets. (3/16)

Though LCC started around 1900, major libraries took time to move over to the "new" system. By 1927 @ALALibrary knew they needed to figure out what was happening, and commissioned Margaret Mann to research and write a book on the use and classification of books in LCC.
@ALALibrary of course, not to be off brand from the 1920's referred to Mann in the patriarchal sense as "Miss Mann", despite, y'know, the fact that she was an associate professor @usmi

Natural gas is a feedstock for things like plastics and fertilizer, and we use energy for lots of things, so getting the leakage numbers right matters for life cycle assessment and carbon footprinting. Here's the impact on 6 major industrial materials as % of US carbon footprint:
Our "three considerations" are 1) the LCA databases don't reflect leakage research, which right now means a structural underestimate; 2) not all systems that use natural gas use the same life cycle boundaries (e.g., power plants don't use distribution), 3) GWP is not stable yet

<Part 2 – Wadd, of Tweet Mini-Series: The archaeology of the Book of Idols> “The Kalb (tribe) adopted Wadd as their god at Dūmat al-Jandal” reported Ibn Al-Kalbī. But according to the Qur’an (71:23), Wadd was one of the gods of old, worshiped before Noah’s flood. What is Wadd?
Wadd is a good example of the mismatch between archaeology/epigraphy and the folklore collected by ibn al-Kalbī. His main informant on this matter was the Kalbite Mālik b. Ḥāriṯah al-Ajdārī, who claimed to have witnessed Wadd’s destruction by Khalid b. Al-Walid.
Let’s begin w/the epigraphy: Wadd is (the deification of) ‘love’, the patron deity of the Minaeans, a mercantile kingdom of South Arabia (6th c. to ~150 BCE). Thanks to their vast trading network, the worship of Wadd spread far beyond the borders of Maʿīn. Map: Wiki.

Good morning #Brampton, today is Wednesday, July 4, and there is no council meeting today.

I think this morning is a reasonable time to start discussing the city issues and the #onpoli election is over, and the #brampoli election is fast approaching.
The city of Brampton is currently undergoing a major housing and transportation crisis. The city has sprawled out incredibly rapidly in a disorganized fashion, consisting almost entirely of single family homes. We now have a catastrophic housing crisis in rentals, CMHC data shows
There being a 0.0% vacancy in (legal) bachelor apartments, and 1, 2, 3 bedrooms are sitting in the low 1.x range. The price? TREB estimated the median cost of a legal one bedroom at $1595. If you make $15/hour working full time, that is 4/5th of your take home pay.
