Research Scientist Gerwin Schalk of Albany, NY pleaded guilty for lying on conflict of interest certifications he submitted for NIH (National Institutes of Health) grants.

He lied about payments he received from a company whose products Shalk bought & used in his research.
Shalk works for the New York State Department of Health and is also deputy director of the National Center for Adaptive Neurotechnologies.

He was supposed to disclose all of his conflicts of interests when applying for federal research grants, but didn't.
Shalk used taxpayer funds to buy neurotechnology goods from a company that paid him $70,000 on the side and he failed to disclose this.
Oops, I just noticed I misspelled his name. It's Schalk, not Shalk.
