I’ve been warning about a carbon asset bubble crashing fossil fuel stocks, and sea level rise risks crashing coastal property values.

Well, here’s Marisa Drew, of @CreditSuisse, on the “go to zero” scenarios:

Fossil fuel. “There will be a day when the world can be 100% reliant on alternative energy. If you’re in an old school energy business and we hit that moment where we switch, guess what? The value of those old school investments isn’t going to be worth much.”
Coastal property. “In the past, that’s where everybody wanted to be— everybody wants to be on the water. But now you look at that & say, woah, wait a minute, if seas are going to rise 3ft in the next 20 years, those assets may not actually be worth as much.”
Remember “The Big Short,” the book and movie about the guy who predicted the mortgage collapse?

Well, he’s back, and his new bet is on the coastal real estate values crash...

In the McGahn subpoena case, DOJ OLC opinions take another judicial hit as judge calls out a “string of OLC opinions that... are manifestly inconsistent with the constitutional jurisprudence of the Supreme Court and the D.C. Circuit...”
Not the first time, indeed now two for two:
Significant because it was OLC opinion that Mueller relied on to not indict Trump on obstruction of justice charges, without judicial basis or opportunity for judicial review. I think that was a bad call on his part.

Let’s be crystal clear that it’s the fossil fuel industry to blame, obstructing all these solutions from behind its complex web of climate denial groups.

Aiding and abetting were groups like the @USChamber and NAM, political ‘hit men’ who took fossil fuel money to become America’s worst climate obstructors.
Wall Street was happy to indulge this behavior (and still does) as long as it kept making them money, so no heroes there.

🇨🇦 is uniquely vulnerable to climate impacts. From sea level rise that threatens coastal cities to bigger wildfires, more intense floods + thawing permafrost, we're all affected. And our cumulative carbon ems? We're the 9th biggest emitter in the WORLD.

Y'all, I just need to brag about the students in my Barrier Islands class. While studying for their exam (which they're taking right now), they created a bunch of barrier-island-themed memes that combine #geology concepts, #coastal issues, & #humor. 1/
Almost all semester I've explained how most barrier islands worldwide are geologically "new," having only been made <10,000 years ago, but that the Georgia barrier islands are composite, made by two different shorelines during the Pleistocene & Holocene. #geology 2/
We also recently learned about how humans have interacted with barrier islands during those past <10,000 years, and how it changed from seasonal use to unsustainable over-development. #geology #coastal 3/

Putting a price on carbon.

The IPCC report on holding global warming to 1.5°C released Sunday calls for it. A share of the Nobel in Economics was awarded to William Nordhaus this week for championing it. It's arguably the most efficient and powerful climate policy available.
