UPDATE on my attempt to find a hairstylist for my new show that specializes in doing natural hair without heat

I, & others black actresses, have tweeted about this issue for days. My tweets have been RT’d hundreds of times w/thousands of comments.

Verdict: Not ONE name given.
Remember, I started this by saying that artists in #Local706 who CAN do our hair & makeup well, exist! They are just always booked. #Natch

Further, the union makes it all but impossible for non-union artists who have this specialty to get in.

None of that has been disproven.
And I still haven’t located a hairstylist:
1) in Los Angeles
2) who is a member of #Local706
3) who specializes in natural hair without heat
4) who is free and able to start work TODAY.

So I will be doing my OWN hair.

Newsflash: I am also NOT in #Local706.

And I will say yet again for clarity sake, this is a union issue.

No blame or shade falls on the amazing producers of my new show ❤️ or on @disney and @disneyplus. THEY want me to have what I need to do my job. Their hands are tied, too.

This whole experience has been a mess.
And while I focus on THIS instead of my OWN job, I am doing myself & new show a disservice. I should be celebrating the blessing of this awesome @disneyplus gig (love y’all! 😘) & learning lines. Instead I’m trying to find a hairstylist & spotlighting what black actresses endure.
I am exhausted by this and my spirit is broken, but I will keep fighting this fight. Not for me—I’ve been doing my own hair so long for TV & Film, I’m sadly used to this—but for the younger sisters who can’t fight it.

I’m trying to save THEIR edges and ends.
