1) So, let’s talk for a moment about agricultural policy. Wisconsin is largely an agricultural state. That’s not a put down, agriculture is our country’s largest industry, bar none. But none of the current Wisconsin House members serve on the Agriculture Committee.
2) If you look at the Ag Committee’s website, the only legislation being sponsored currently is H.R. 3062, The Dairy Security Act of 2011. Now, I’m not saying Dairy Security isn’t important. I’m saying it’s very important. The website states that the Bill would...
3) “establish a program for dairy producers under which producers can offset reductions in producer income when the margin between milk prices and feed costs is less than a specified amount, [and] to establish a dairy market stabilization program….”
4) Well, that sounds like it might be important for Wisconsin, but none of Wisconsin’s House members are pushing for it, and that bill’s been stalled for nearly a decade. It can’t help Wisconsin farmers if it never gets out of Committee.
