Today the World Champion Washington Nationals went to the White House. These are just big, overgrown kids.
They had just lost slugging star Bryce Harper to the rival Phillies in an offseason signing.
Baseball is all about finishing strong. 162 game season is a long haul. You need to get your guys healthy and organized.
He did. And, boy did that pay off.
The second half -the important one- they went 46-27, or 19 games over. That's not just a hot finish. That's smokin'
They won every elimination contest. They also won every game at the home team Houston's field. This has never been done in a World Series before.
They beat a terrific Houston club. It was already a great story.
The Nats, who had already lost two in a row at home had the President coming. He was not going to throw out the first pitch.
That privilege was given, in a fairly underhanded move by the owners to a celebrity chef.
The next day the Nats started losing. Right after the diss.
He smiled and said 'too much armor' needed to be worn on the field. He showed up at the game in between the second and third inning.
This is where our story gets REALLY interesting.
There is a fundamental disagreement.
The media tale was over the top; the booing was 'deafening' and the 'chant broke out all over the field'
The media had their tech guys amplify the sounds. It's pretty obvious when you compare. Ultimately, it was dismissed as the kid's play the resist crowd enjoys.
The good karma was restored.
The Nats went back on the road and WON.
He and his wife are both social activists and liberals.
He doesn't like the president. Fine.
Don't go.
They claim he is 'booed by a hostile crowd'.
There were a few people who howled at him but he was in a building with friends.
Not foes.
The Nats go to the White House. POTUS, the lovely First Lady and Nats GM Mike Rizzo are on the balcony.
Dave Martinez right in the middle.
45, who knows his baseball, laid on the praise in his usual jocular manner.
He IS good at this, after all.
Then veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki took the center stage.
It was a Make America Great Again hat, aka MAGA.
It was quite a moment. He threw open his arms, proclaimed his love for the crowd, and left.
The blowback was fast, and intense.
Not only was a Nats player wearing the hat that terrified Jussie Smollett so much he beat himself with a Subway sandwich, but he's a Japanese American.
PC criticism checkmated.
Ryan Zimmerman, oozing the matinee idol looks and charm thanked the president for 'making the country a safe place to live' and the 'best country on earth'.
POTUS was basking, for a change.
It was nice to see.
Twitter went crazy.
The people at the Post, who had been mocking 45 all week had to now confront 'their' team had different views that they.
The Nat players not only didn't care, but one got even.
A Post reporter had been posting the doctored video on his site for days. The Game 5 one. Instead of deleting the video he locked out his account to 'fans only'.
#FakeNews he texted.
These people, who now live to remove a president they don't like, had a very bad day.
Karma delivered a stunning rebuke today.
The president won again...
Strasburg was incensed with the WaPo reporter for making it seem he dissed the president by turning his back on him with a clever edit.
He tweeted #FakeNews in response.
Thanks to the lovely @LisaMei62 for the help...
