Delighted to be reminded over the last few days that everyone on Twitter is an infallible election strategist.
You’d think that after 15, 17, EUref, Indyref we might all be a little more reticent about claiming to know what real world is thinking. Same re declaring particular (often minor) moments masterstrokes/catastrophes/gamechangers.
I for one plan to spend the entire campaign in a constructive state of doubt, uncertainty and terror.

It's worth pointing out here that this shift, while dramatic, will actually make Britain a 'normal' nation in terms of infra spending. Public investment in UK has been low for a long time
As has investment more widely - hence why we at @CPSThinkTank have pushed for action to incentivise business investment via full expensing
(There is also a point here that as a services-based economy we need less investment, but even on that score we are undershooting, as these final charts show...)

Will be writing (much) more about this later, but today really was a huge moment in terms of competing visions of what the British state/economy looks like (1/?)
The @sajidjavid speech, for example, represented a genuine departure not just from the austerity period, but almost 40 years of state infrastructure investment (or rather lack of it)
Basically, getting this dotted line up to the 3% mark - justified, in his view (and that of many others) by current ultra-low interest rates which make this kind of investment a far better deal

Have been trying to puzzle out how Farage's campaign strategy can lead to the kind of Brexit he wants and it's pretty much impossible to see.
If Tories don't win, the (unpalatable) options are a diluted version of Boris's deal (eg customs union), some other more Remain-y version (eg Labour's renegotiated deal), or no Brexit at all
If there's a second referendum, it will only have no deal on the ballot if the question is being set by those actively trying to avoid/sabotage Brexit. Otherwise it will be current deal (or Labour deal) vs Remain

Over the last few days I’ve seen assertions and evidence that information architecture literacy is diminished. Not the least of which: Sitting in a design review where the designers couldn’t explain the structure of their design.

Interest in IA was stronger 20 years ago, says @karenmcgrane, and I tend to agree. What’s pulled the rug out from under the field? I posed this question to the @eightshapes team this morning.

What’s caused the decline of IA? @eightshapes theories:

1. Difficult to sell/teach IA in the emergent UX crash courses
2. Agile methods are incompatible with “big thinking” required in IA
3. Small screens (i.e. smartphones) obscure the need for deep thinking about structure

Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a few emails and messages asking why I’ve been all worked up over this Iran thing. Others have said I’ve gotten too personal in my attacks. So, without further ado, I’ll try to explain myself a bit and tell you where the angst is coming from.
I’ll preface this by saying that I’m honored many of these people think I’m so important (I’m not) and have so much influence (I definitely don’t).

My favorite targets are Dubowitz (really, everybody at FDD), Boot, Pompeo, Bolton, Trump, Michael Rubin, Cotton & Graham.
I’m going hard after them b/c every person on this list (there are more) has helped create the current pool of shit we are swimming in right now. This is a self-inflicted disaster of epic proportions, initiated by the laughably poor advice & actions of each of these people.

Over the last few days, it's become clearer and clearer to me that, without intervention, coverage of the 2020 campaign is likely to be a disaster for everyone except Trump and his core voters, who want to watch it all burn anyway. In this thread I describe the danger I see. 1/
By "disaster for everyone," I mean all candidates opposing Trump, journalists themselves, voters from all sides (except those who have exited from the news system by merging with his hate campaign against the news media) and anyone who seeks the repair of American democracy. 2/
Start with the simple fact of inertia. In ruins after the debacle of 2016, the horse race model and "game" schema that have instructed campaign journalism for at least 40 years are up and running again. It appears the bosses have no better ideas, and no will to develop them. 3/

Over the last few days, have noticed a lot of twitter people discussing why Indian engineers/MBA types tend to mostly swing rightwards. Also, does the inclusion of a few humanities courses make a difference? Read on.
1) People have already covered the usual explanations - male, upper caste, the god complex that accompanies securing an admission. All solid points, but that doesn't account for the fact that the phenomenon often goes beyond savarna males
2) I think the question is one of basic worldview, and the assumption that the social world mirrors the 'natural world' (which in turn is also erroneously presumed to be newtonian and deterministic, with 'iron clad' laws)
