Will be writing (much) more about this later, but today really was a huge moment in terms of competing visions of what the British state/economy looks like (1/?)
The @sajidjavid speech, for example, represented a genuine departure not just from the austerity period, but almost 40 years of state infrastructure investment (or rather lack of it)
Basically, getting this dotted line up to the 3% mark - justified, in his view (and that of many others) by current ultra-low interest rates which make this kind of investment a far better deal
This is accompanied by splitting off capital spending from day-to-day spending, giving a bit more headroom on the latter (some of which will hopefully be used to help with cost of living, stamp duty, NI thresholds etc as well as pure spending).
