1. Somebody on @MSNBC just mentioned the Hobbs Act but I don't think they are correct. What they said was federal bribery statute's language. Hobbs Act is robbery or extortion. Threat to person or property.

Under certain circumstances the President can kill foreigners. Even US citizens. He just can't shake anyone down for his personal gain. That's bribery, IMO. @FBIWFO @maddow @Lawrence @tribelaw

1. @TheDemocrats are making a colossal error. They admit the Ukraine related impeachment won't remove Trump. They ignore that Trump has committed a crime that the minimum punishment is life in prison. The Roebuck memo released today is an indictment of Trump for capital crimes.
2. The @SenateGOP and the @POTUS Trump Evangelical base is against Trump on Syria and his agreement with @RTErdogan to commit genocide of #Kurds and #Christians. When he has committed a capital crime that has no possible official immunity, why not impeach him for that?

2. I defy any two people at any US intelligence of law enforcement to match my reporting on the war to defeat ISIS in Syria starting in 2014 before @BarackObama jumped in. I watched it all in real time and memorialized it in @Twitter that suspended me when Turkey invaded #Afrin.
3. Turkey is ISIS and if @RTErdogan comes here he is subject to arrest for genocide under 18 USC 1091. I doubt he'll be arrested. But IMO he could be arrested under both US and international law. There is no immunity. See Nuremberg UN Resolution.

1/ If Trump promised foreign aid to Ukraine in exchange for investigating Biden's son, that is obviously corrupt and should meet any definition of a "high crime" for impeachment.

It's also "bribery" as commonly understood, but I'm not sure it fits the federal bribery statute.
2/ The bribery statute is all about bribing public officials *in the United States*, and defines public officials in that fashion. (You can check out the definition yourself, below.) So I disagree with legal analysts who cite that statute. law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18…
3/ The more likely charge here would be one of two things.

First, a campaign finance charge, if the purpose of the bribery is to influence a federal election. (Given that Biden is leading in the polls, this has some appeal on its face.)

Some brief thoughts tangential to the Mueller investigation: our laws relating to white collar political crime are awful, and are totally different from our laws relating to everything else. /1
Like the Foreign Agents Registration Act. A person can engage in political activities "directly or indirectly supervised, directed, controlled, financed, or subsidized" by a "foreign principal" and not register with DOJ, so long as it's not "in whole or in major part." /2
Contrast that "in whole or in major part" limitation -- which has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt -- with civil forfeiture laws routinely applied against the poor, where property can be seized from people not even accused of a crime. /3 nbcnews.com/think/opinion/…

The phony Collusion smear having been completely debunked, Trump's opponents are now scouring the umbras and penumbras of Obstruction to seek some psychological solace. The Obstruction charge revolves around the firing of Comey. Let us review.
2. Shorn of all the inconsequential stuff, Comey was fired for one reason and one reason alone. President Trump found him insufferable. Why? Because Comey told Trump on three different occasions that Trump was not under investigation, but refused to say the same thing publicly.
3. Which manager with any self-respect would tolerate a subordinate who refuses to tell the truth publicly. Not only that, a subordinate who creates a public impression that you are under investigation, but tells you privately that you are not.
