There will be checks as the term is commonly understood in goods travelling from NI to GB. That is to say not all goods will be checked, but declarations made, and the possibility that goods will be checked. Otherwise we break WTO law and encourage smuggling. Detail to follow.

There are also two further problems with what Johnson said. He said having access to the single market and free movement was a great deal for Northern Ireland, in which case he should be explaining why this is not the case for GB.
He also said the EU only gave him the deal because they were worried about no-deal, which is totally untrue, this was very close to a deal he and PM May rejected for dividing the UK over the previous 18 months, it was his concession.
