Seeing a lot of anxiety over the @TLHumanRights hearing tomorrow. Few things to keep in mind (thread):

1) A commission hearing is not nearly as significant nor newsworthy as the @HouseForeign hearing in which @AartiTikoo participated.
@TLHumanRights @HouseForeign @AartiTikoo 2) Like UNHRC, @TLHumanRights is known to push agendas of co-chairs. Credibility is a big ?mark. @HinduAmerican called this out before hafsite.org/whats-new/us-c… (2)

@TLHumanRights @HouseForeign @AartiTikoo @HinduAmerican 4) Recall that @RepChrisSmith-co-chair of @TLHumanRights-regularly condemns India, & even called for India to be listed in the same category as Saudi Arabia after India restricted the proselytizing group, Compassion International, for violating FCRA laws. hafsite.org/hindu-american…
@TLHumanRights @HouseForeign @AartiTikoo @HinduAmerican @RepChrisSmith 5) Lots of new India critics on Capitol Hill these days, & @RepJayapal's potential Kashmir resolution (that entirely fails to mention #KashmiriPandits) needs to be monitored. But the @TLHumanRights kangaroo court should be ignored. That's what @HinduAmerican will do. (END)

Would @mehdihasan point to Islamic scripture or Muslim advocates as responsible for ISIS or 9/11 since OBL used them to justify his attack? He wouldn't, because it would be wrong. But Hindus are uniquely acceptable to be targeted thus? 3/5

The econ job market season is here, so I thought I would do a quick thread for PhD students about applying for government jobs. The job market guide by @cawley_john is excellent, but focuses almost exclusively on the academic market.
Much is similar, but I'll highlight some key differences. The initial application through @JOE_listings is the same as for academic jobs (though some agencies skip the AEA process). Many agencies can only hire US citizens, so it is important to state your citizenship on your

It’s a striking announcement, to be sure, but there’s a (much) bigger picture.

A few things to keep in mind, via @ProPublica’s @DerekWillis:

“shareholders” aren’t all the same, and they have wide-ranging views about what “maximizing” returns means to them. Shareholders are investors, which is to say “people” and their investment desires are as different as all people are different. 2/12
Some people desire high rates of return over short time horizons, even if it comes with more risk. Some like the steady, simple returns of index funds. Some invest regardless of returns, in companies with products they use, or because they liked what @jimcramer said. 3/12

I want to have an honest discussion about the AR15, AK47’s and #massshootings.

If we’re talking about personal security, whether in your home, your store, or out on the street— nothing is more effective than a can of bear spray.

The last thing I’d reach for is a long rifle or a handgun.

So the idea of “self defense”
as a reason to own them is ridiculous.
As someone with more weapons training than most Americans, I know how firearms can fail you in a rushed response to a threat.

And anyone who’s on drugs, who might be immune to bear spray, would also take several shots from a firearm— even if they’re well-placed.
