The Economist, you may be surprised to learn, was super excited and happy about Pinochet's coup. 
the term gaslighting gets thrown around too much so i won't use it but what's the word for when the US President, several Senators, CIA director, Sec of State, NSA all openly call for and lobby for a military coup for months, then The Economist calls pointing this out "absurd"?
I just....the 2019 Venezuela coup was out in the open. The WH promoted and met with members of the military and the opposition party. Richard Branson put on a fucking concert. It's all above board and reported on. People are still saying Maudro is making up coup plots? I just.

whats notable too is how often The Economist smugly dismissed allegations by Allende the Chilean economy was being meddled w/. This is from an April 1971 Economist, 7 months after Kissinger's now infamous memo to Nixon authorizing $10 million to make the Chilean economy "scream"
