JUST IN: Trump moves to force dismissal of lawsuit brought by Bolton aide seekign to determine whether to testify in House impeachment proceedings.
This is the same suit Mulvaney sought to jon before rescinding his effort and siding with Trump.
INTERESTING: Trump's effort to force Kupperman to drop his suit includes a lengthy explanation of why Kupperman is too close to Trump to be allowed to testify >>>
MORE: The House has now filed its own motion to dismiss Kupperman's suit, calling it moot because lawmakers withdrew their subpoena.

But they also argue that Trump has no authority to block Kupperman -- a former official -- from testifying.

But the figures who Rudy dealt with on Ukraine - Volker/Sondland - had known for weeks. And it never came up?

Volker and Sondland knew about the aid freeze on July 18 and both dealt routinely w/ Rudy in the coming days weeks. In fact, on July 19, Volker helped put Rudy in touch with a top Ukrainian official by text.

@SenateRules: Anticipating the House adopting Articles of Impeachment, why shouldn't the Senate, by amendment of its Rules if necessary, entertain a motion to dismiss the Articles?

After all, Rule 12 of the Fed.R.Crim.P. permits a motion to dismiss an indictment.
Much ballyhooing has been made of the unseemly nature of the conduct of the House's proceedings: the bias of the Intel Cmte Chair, his obvious need to testify as to material facts, abandonment of established practices, etc.
Why should the time of the Senate be occupied in the conduct of the trial of so suspect origins and purposes?

True enough, grand jury proceedings are secret. That character of them, of course, is why @DNC apologists are analogizing the present proceedings to such.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
