Gu Jian 3 is a lot of fun to play, looks nothing less than stunning ALL THE TIME, and really gets the A in ARPG right! Please try something new, please let good quality games from outside the usual Jp/US/EU framework do well \o/

Stonekeep's a 1995 MS-DOS dungeon crawler from Interplay, designed by Christopher Taylor (who also designed Fallout)
and it's one of the last games in the wacky era of PC gaming where sometimes you'd just get a fucking novel with the game.

Welcome to the #NelsonVR Steam Summer Sale thread!

I'm going through the entire catalog of discounted VR games to chat about trends, consequences of the Almighty Algorithm, bizdev implications, and games That Look Pretty Cool.

Some disclaimers before we start:
The Summer Sale just gives us an inherent microcosm to discuss stuff within. There are many incredible VR and non-VR titles that don't go on sale for a bunch of reasons, including hit shooter H3VR, and you should look for ways to support those folks too.

For the purposes of this thread, I'm largely ignoring titles that use gamepads or mouse-keyboard controls. Those inputs are super valid, but I'm personally more interested in the unique experiences VR enables--which usually means motion controls, and in many cases, Room Scale.

Good news everyone! It does seem like my formula of Steam week 1 sales = wishlists x 0.5 still holds true in 2019, at least based on a few devs I've spoken to.

How many do you need? Here's an example to break even in week 1:
- Budget = $100K
- Gross sales required in year 1 = $154K ish.
- Unit price = $15
- Full price units required = 10,266
- Pre-launch wishlists required = 20,533
If you plan to break even in the first year, then you can divide the year 1 total revenue by approx. 5 to get the week 1 total. So:
- $154K / 5 = $30,800 week 1
- Full price units required = 2053
- Pre-launch wishlists required = 4106

I want to tell you about Surviving Mars.

The short version is: this is the best software toy I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with.

50 hours in, I still can’t get enough.
My joy at this “game” only makes sense in a context:

I grew up playing Sim Earth, Sim Ant, the Sim City series, of course, Sim Tower

All of these were unique in my experience: elaborate little systems to manipulate and master. Experiments in creating tiny ecosystems.
The joy of the simulation genre was that it was about teaching and puzzles at once. You had to both solve problems and learn systems
