I fear there's a cover up goin on in Paterson, NJ.

On January 5, 2019 a 27-year-old Black man by the name of #JameekLowery, walked into Paterson Police HQ’s seeking assistance and water. He ended up BEATEN, BRUISED and DEAD.
#JameekLowery walked to PPD for help and went on FB Live. You can hear the fear in his voice as he begged officers not to kill him.

He even gave the premonition that if he is dead in the next hour, the cops did it.

He arrived at the hospital unresponsive 15 mins later.
In 2018, 5 Paterson cops have been arrested by the FBI for selling drugs out their cop car, seizing funds from drug dealers and not reporting and for beating a suicidal hospital patient at the same hospital Jameek Lowery appeared bruised & battered at.

Yesterday, Syracuse University students at one of the libraries were air dropped white supremacist messages with a link to the New Zealand mosque shooting manifesto stating that the offender "must secure the existence" of their ppl and "a future for white children." #NotAgainSU
This is a threat of gun violence. I, like my students, feel distraught, powerless, vulnerable, and afraid.

Please support my students however you can. Please understand the seriousness of what is happening here. #NotAgainSU
I have canceled my physical class tomorrow and opted for a virtual class meeting via Blackboard's discussion board. I have also changed my meetings with teaching and research assistants to virtual (online or via phone). No one should have to be on campus right now. #NotAgainSU

My #BlackHistoryMonth story:

In February of my senior year of high school, there was a Black History Month presentation scheduled. But attendance was optional.

The optional attendance policy upset the black students in the school. They staged a walkout during the lunch periods.
My 4th period class -- lunch periods shared the same time slots as 4th period classes -- was all white students, so we sat in our room during the walkout, which I think we could see from our window. None of us kids really understood why the walkout was occurring.
After all, it was a Black History Month presentation, so why should everyone have to attend it, instead of just students who were interested in Black History (whatever that meant), of whatever race? The attitude in the room was one of mainly confusion.

interim city manager said the situation regarding the police data extraction would be on the agenda... i don’t see it.
love a public meeting held in a locked building with no signs about the location or existence of the meeting. highly accessible to the public.

As a native North Carolinian and Charlottean, I grew up loving Carolina Basketball! I’d go to the basketball court every day and pretend to be Rashid, Stackhouse, or Dante Calabria. But when it was time for me to apply to college, I didn’t consider @UNC. 3/32

A student, Matthew Ward, bought a self-cocking pistol in the morning, went to school and killed Schoolmaster Mr. Butler in front of his classmates for excessively punishing his brother the day before.

After school, a teacher was walking with four small children. She was approached by a Mr. Hall and shot. The Schoolmaster ran out, but she was dead instantly. Hall threw himself in front of a train.
