Yes, free tuition is a giveaway to the upper middle class. But the real reason I don't like it is that I think there's almost no chance that it'll actually be matched 1-for-1 by public spending increases. Thus it'll starve universities of resources, which would be quite bad.
Defenders of free tuition - i.e. basically everyone I know - just sort of take an "assume a can opener" approach toward public funding and ignore the evidence of the last few decades, assuming all reluctance to spend will be swept away in a great wave of socialist confetti...
The reality is that our universities are practically the one functional institution we have left, and they're the most liberal institution we have, and they're built on the tuition dollars of the upper middle class. So we monkey with that at our peril.

Andrew Yang is a good guy, and I like a number of his ideas (including UBI and VAT). But on the threat of automation, the math just doesn't check out. Here is why:

2/First piece of evidence that robots aren't currently taking human jobs overall: Employment levels are high right now. Prime-age employment rates are at or above their peaks in the mid-2000s and late-80s booms.
3/But what about wages??

Well, real median weekly earnings are going up, for the first time in a long time.

This seems like a reasonable approach to financing Medicare for All. But it underscores the point that it requires big, broad-based tax increases, and you need to be willing to just argue for them as savings in a total-cost framework. peoplespolicyproject.org/2019/10/30/how…
Democrats got themselves into a cul-de-sac by arguing that only the rich should ever pay higher taxes. They either need to embrace not paying for things or argue that the things they're paying for are worth higher taxes, as we see in Europe.
I've said this before, but I think Sanders basically has this right. Don't deny there'll be higher taxes. Say the taxes will be worth it. Don't pin yourself down to one financing scheme, but don't hide the ball on the basic nature of the financing.

Insurance Companies frequently send letters out informing patients that they will not any longer cover medications that I prescribe. It appears that they are targeting #Independent #Doctors that they cannot #Control.
Are there any other doctors that see this pattern? Why on Earth would I remove meds from patients that are doing so well & have no side effects? It would be against my medical oath of "do no harm."
Read the letter they sent to me. CVS writes: " CVS Caremark wants to help your patients stay adherent to their medication therapy." Really? So you discontinue coverage for patients that are doing so well & make them pay for it completely themselves, & you claim you wish to help?

It was DPD's Lieutenant Hank Anderson, a thirty-plus-year veteran of the force, who first posited that the early killings were related. The murderer has refined his MO, but forensic examination continues to support the idea that all six deaths are the work of the same man.
