I'm having a hard time seeing so much negativity abt scripts & templates. Many autistic ppl (& other nuerodivergent ppl) use scripts & templates many times a day to communicate, & esp use them in emotionally challenging situations & when they have less capacity.
It doesn't make our communication less authentic, meaningful, caring, genuine or compassionate. It's how we try to bridge communication differences, esp w/allistic ppl & neurotypical ppl. We use scripts & templates, borrow phrasing from movies, books, TV, & other ppl.
I understand any particular social script or template may not work for you personally, may land badly or be triggering for a range of reasons. I'm not discussing that, I'm talking about insulting ppl who need scripts & templates to communicate, calling us names.
Calling the use of templates & social scripts robotic, inhumane, disturbing, lacking in empathy, or using ableist slurs to describe it...these are dogwhistles for ableism targeting autistic ppl in particular. It hurts me to see this, as an #ActuallyAutistic person.
If you find my words useful, you might like my romances, all have autistic queer protagonists building connection & trying to get through the day.
