A lawyer representing Lt. Col. Vindman has sent a letter to Fox News requesting a retraction for a "deeply flawed and erroneous" segment on Laura Ingraham's show in which a guest seemed to raise possibility he committed espionage nytimes.com/2019/11/20/us/…
Vindman lawyer to Fox News: "The segment was not true. It has now been repeated by some of the most powerful people in the world. It is causing great pain. We ask you to retract the coverage, correct the record, and publish the truth."
Fox spox responds to letter from Vindman's lawyer: “As a guest on Fox News, John Yoo was responsible for his own sentiments and he has subsequently done interviews to clarify what he meant.”
(Yoo did write a USA op-ed in which he clarified that he meant to say Ukraine had engaged in "espionage," not Vindman. And Yoo told @ChrisCuomo that he did "regret the choice of words" he had used in the Ingraham interview.)

As pro-Trump media continue to call impeachment a "coup d'état," worth noting the process is pretty much the opposite of one. A coup implies an ILLEGAL, maybe violent, overthrow of gov't. Impeachment is the LEGAL, Constitutional process laid out by founders for removing POTUS.
For those not paying attention, this "coup" language has blanketed pro-Trump media as of late. From Tucker Carlson to Mark Levin to Breitbart to Rush Limbaugh to The Gateway Pundit to "Fox & Friends." It's everywhere.
And the circle is now complete: Trump repeats the claim, which has been all over right-wing media in recent days, that he might be the victim of a "coup."

As someone who has had the privilege of representing asylum seekers who risked their lives standing up to corruption, I was touched by the gratitude expressed in the #VindmanTestimony that Lt Col #Vindman's family no longer lives in a country like that.

If only it were true.
It's one thing to know that there are places where it's impossible to remove a corrupt president, and where his party will knowingly help him try to expose any whistleblowers to acts of stochastic violence.

It's another thing to realize that you live in one of those places.
Trump doesn't admire Putin, Erdogan, MBS, etc in spite of flagrant murders of critics, journalists, & truthtellers. He clearly admires them *for* these things.

Retributive violence is a hell of a drug

LtCol Vindman wasn't just worried about Trump's illegal demand. As a natsec expert AND Soviet immigrant, he understood the implications: Dragging Ukraine into partisan investigations would undoubtedly result in losing bipartisan support—bad for OUR natl security, good for Russia.
