The NRC isn’t coming to your neighborhood anytime soon no matter what Shah says.

India is much bigger than Assam. There’s a baseline they need to work with to even start compiling a list.

This baseline will likely be a combination of census data+electoral roll.

Forget India, it’ll take them 5 years to even begin building an NRC for a place like Mumbai, for instance.

Transitionary population, lack of manpower, as well as resources makes it an impossible task.

So for now - don’t panic.

Remember - the BJP is known for grandiose claims. They’re also well-known for their incompetence.

The Assam NRC was Supreme Court-monitored.

And yet the BJP managed to totally mess it up & score a self goal.

There’s nothing like a “citizenship cut-off year” governing other parts of India like there was in Assam.

Even if they apply one, they’ll have to give a legal rationale for it. And there isn’t one.

The only place where anyone has reason to be worried right now is Bengal. Not only is it a border state but it’s also a lab for BJP’s dirty games.

In rest of India, you’re fine. Don’t worry about the NRC just yet.

Just get yourself on the voter list pronto & sit back.

They won’t get away with the pan-India NRC that easily.

There’s many of us who’ll ensure they go through multiple layers of courts before they can even begin.

This is an intimidation game because they’re bullies.

But also never forget - they’re incompetent cowards.
