I know folks complain about it but, DC Metro, now that it is built out and has smart cards, is a delight. HS/20-something me would never have imagined how easy it is to navigate the city and burbs. And Union Station to DCA in idk 20 min? Wow.
The new cars, kinda like the new BART cars but with the new MTA cars’ electronic route displays are great.
I used to walk 20 min from school to closest metro stop to transfer 3 lines, wind up at Ballston and take the 23. Took 1.5 hrs. Even that commute would be cut in half now
Also compared to the disastrous state of the MTA and even BART, which is solid in many ways but has some real accessibility issues with its ~ escalators and elevators, Metro seems pretty clutch. Are there particular lines that are neglected? Or are the older parts showing age?
Anyway: to fight climate change and sprawl and horrible commutes and all the knock on effects of those things we need to fight for, maintain, expand mass transit and make it accessible and affordable for people. Look to Europe and Asian where this exists.
