In many cases, the work you do for your employer, you could do for yourself.

You may need some creativity to figure out how to get there prudently (without risking anything you can’t tolerate losing) and to arrive there with the odds stacked in your favor.

Don't start with an idea, or a landing page, or a proof of concept, or God forbid, a business plan. Start with what you want to put at risk: How much time, how much money, how much career progress, how much quality of life, etc. Then protect the rest with *extreme paranoia*.

Once the important stuff is safe (with paranoid protection), take stock of your means: your skills, your connections, your free time, your experience, your location, your perspective, your finances, your interests, your strengths, etc.

This is your reality.

Then try to use your imagination to find viable ideas that fit your reality. Ideally try a few (but not too many) at the same time.

This is my strategy. Fate can determine my outcome, but it cannot harm me beyond what I've chosen to put at risk. The uncertainty has been tamed.
