The Tencent Nintendo Switch (Official Mainland China Ver.) will launch on December 10th 2019 for RMB 2,099 ($300).

It will come bundled with New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and a 1 year warranty.
Games will be priced at RMB 299 (~$42) which is in line with regional pricing standards.

Currently only NSMBU Deluxe is approved for sale. Others to release soon.

Locally developed titles like ICEY and Chinese Parents are also planned to release for the console.
Tencent and Nintendo are actively working with Chinese game developers to bring indie titles to the platform.
NSMBU Deluxe is out Dec 10th.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey are available to pre order now.

Additional first party games are being prepared for the China market for later.
Tencent and Nintendo are also working with AAA partners listed below to bring additional third party titles to the China market.

Also includes Chinese AAA partners such as Tencent's own Next Studio.
The marketing for the console itself revolves around:

- 1 year warranty
- Local servers powered by Tencent for smooth online play
- WeChat Pay supported
- Localised high quality software for all ages in Simplified Chinese
Distribution partners for hardware and software will include:

Online: JD / TMall
Retail: Suning and others
Eshop: Nintendo
Note.

Whilst this is the official launch for Mainland China, the console and games have been available via the grey market since 2017 with many already choosing to import from overseas.

So even though this is a limited launch, grey market is still an option for games.

No Switch Lite info revealed today. It is expected that Switch Lite would launch next year at this point.

Also it is currently unclear if the bundled NSMBU Deluxe is a demo ver. or the full ver. of the game. It could be a demo with option to upgrade.
Note 3.

Just like the global version of the Switch, buyers of the Tencent Nintendo Switch will be able to use any region game cards to play games.

However, it does look like online services may be region locked by Tencent. Still waiting on confirmation.

Ok. Let's talk briefly about Ring Fit Adventure from Nintendo.

As expected, this is the spiritual to successor to Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus which sold a combined 43.8 million units.

A new adventure game that utilizes a Ring Con and Leg Strap accessory to play. $79, Oct 18th.
Wii Fit launched as a collection of exercise mini games that would track your workouts and push you to improve your health and fitness levels. The balance board was easy to understand and use.

This was at a time when smartphones weren't around and didn't have dedicated apps.
More than a decade after Wii Fit, everyone now uses their smartphone / Apple Watch to track calories, steps, fitness routines, heart rates and other ways of staying healthy.

The market for something like Wii Fit has moved on and Nintendo are of course aware of that.

Is Tetris really the second best selling game of all time?

Earlier this year in May, many sites reported that Minecraft had surpassed 176 M copies sold. Some started to mention that it had finally surpassed Tetris, as the most sold game in history... but is this true?
Most people, including this Wikipedia article, agree that Tetris has sold around 170 M copies. The way they get to these numbers is by taking the 35 M pack-in/sold separately GB version, 35 M physical copies of other versions, and 100 M mobile sales.

Okay, so let me talk about Mario for a minute here. I realize there's a difference between the American and Japanese understanding of the character and there always has been, but Mario was originally presented as a blue collar worker. 1/?
Yes, there's the plumber thing, but he was also a construction worker in Wrecking Crew and I guess a carpenter in Donkey Kong. Very blue collar. He started making cameos in other games, but it was like, a boxing ref. 2/?
It's the original Mario Bros. that cast him as a plumber but I guess he was an Evil Animal Trainer in Donkey Kong Jr.? I dunno if Animal Trainer is as "salt of the earth" as being a construction worker, but it's no office job. 3/?

I think the as-to-now history of video games is *very* comparable to the early history of film.

The first movies were equally as primitive as Pong or the early run of Atari 2600 games. The point was just to see motion.

Eventually, movies started becoming more like plays...
with multiple scenes and a story, but even then, the mechanics were very different. It used to be common for a film to be 2 shots - each showing the same event, but from different perspectives.

For instance, the first shot would be people inside a burning building being...
rescued, while the second shot would be the same thing over again but this time from outside the building.

This leads into the early film genres, which were just as simple and restrictive as current video game genres. There was the "firefighter" genre, of a fire department...
