Men of infosec: I had a convo with an accomplished woman in our field recently about her conference experiences. She used a word to describe her experiences that shocked me (that takes a LOT):

She said she feels like prey. Let's explore this for a minute. 1/
I've experienced a range of feels at cons (very positive to very negative), but I've NEVER felt like prey.

I've had women tell me they didn't feel safe (BTW, when that happens, don't downplay, just be an ally and create a safe space). But "prey" is new for me. 2/
I'm still trying to process this. But it sickens me to think of someone describing their experiences like they're being hunted.

That conversation haunts me. Like to the point of being nauseated. That's not hyperbole, it's reality. 3/
Don't be that person. Don't be a bystander either. Nobody should feel like prey anywhere, ever.

If you ever need a safe hand out of a situation, I can attest that 100% of my staff will step up and help. It's corporate culture. We'll be explicitly reinforcing it this week /FIN
It wasn't really a "FIN" - a few more thoughts...
A few more notes based on some great conversations.
