My A+ helper just assisted me in cleaning out 20 storm drains
Just raking out a drain or two around your home or workplace can make a huge difference to flooding (including into homes) plastics getting into sewers, and accessibility for disabled and elderly in particular and also just general grossness.
We (wearing gloves) pick out the plastics and other non biodegradable trash but even if you just rake it all on to sidewalk (not in handicapped cutouts please) you decrease flooding massively.
Picking out trash: 3 min job per drain. Just raking it onto sidewalk, maybe 1.5 min. You can do it!
Make it official (kinda) and adopt a drain. Great lesson in civic responsibility for kids. There was much kvetching, but he was happy to have done it by the end. adoptadrain.sfwater.org (also let on that his dad thinks I’ve adopted too many drains)
