Lawrence VanDyke got a "not qualified" ABA rating because his own colleagues described him as “arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-today practice including procedural rules.”

More than 200 national civil and human rights groups opposed VanDyke. One reason is because of his record of attacking LGBTQ rights.

He claimed in a 2004 Harvard Law Record article that same-sex families hurt children + LGBTQ people are deviant. huffpost.com/entry/lawrence…
Another reason is because of his record of arguing against women’s reproductive rights.

As MT's solicitor general, VanDyke submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of Arizona’s 20-week abortion ban -- and asked the justices to reconsider Roe v. Wade).
Still another reason he drew so much opposition is because of his record on guns.

VanDyke said in 2014 that all “gun control laws are misdirected” and vowed to oppose even the most basic gun safety measures like tighter background checks.
The ABA interviewed lots of VanDyke's colleagues -- including 43 lawyers and 16 judges -- and at least some of them shredded his credibility. His own colleagues!

They described him as “arrogant, lazy” and “an ideologue" who might not be fair to LGBTQ litigants.
Despite all these things (or because of them?), every Republican but one just confirmed VanDyke to a lifetime seat on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. He's 46.

The ABA also noticed a theme after interviewing VanDyke's colleagues: that he "has an 'entitlement' temperament, does not have an open mind, and does not always have a commitment to being candid and truthful."

All reassuring qualities for a lifetime federal judge!

The American Bar Association’s peer review process found Mr. VanDyke “not qualified” and described him as “arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-to-day practice.” Americans deserve qualified, non-ideological judges with proper temperament.
Emails show that Mr. VanDyke has let the gun lobby shape his litigation decisions. And during his unsuccessful campaign for the Montana Supreme Court, he sought the NRA’s endorsement, saying that gun control laws are “misdirected.” He prejudged the issue.

VanDyke is the ninth Trump judicial nominee to be rated "not qualified" by the ABA committee, and the third circuit court nominee to date. He's been nominated for one of the Nevada seats on the 9th Circuit (filling Judge Jay Bybee's seat now that Bybee is taking senior status)
A "not qualified" rating from the ABA committee that vets judicial nominees is rare, both historically and also for this administration — Rs have accused the ABA of bias, but the vast majority of Trump's nominees have been rated "well qualified" or "qualified"

1/ Several months ago, I first learned about something called the BITE Model, a model of extreme social control. It is an acronym for Behavioral, Information, Thought, and Emotional Control. ABA, as a therapy and a culture, does all of these things.

Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
