The breakup was inevitable
They love was rogue love
It wasn't meant to be
It was one of those things
Dead on arrival!
They both grew up and pulled in different directions
He was twenty when they met
She was also twenty
At that age she did what she thought was fun
He was real fun
and so was she
They met at a friend's
party
They danced and exchanged phone numbers
He was her second boyfriend
The first boyfriend was a joke of sort
She had a crush on the guy
They kissed
She lost interest after the kiss
He never got around to asking her out as he should..
But she still called him her first
She felt it would be odd telling people she had never really been in a relationship
When he came for her at the party
She didn't play hard to get
She really liked him
He dressed well and conducted himself responsibly
He neither drank nor smoked
She liked that
He also spoke eloquently
He was someone she could spar
With intellectually
They had a lot of things in common
It was very easy and reasonable for her to fall in love with him
The only problem was his background!
His family was dirt poor
He was working as a cleaner
by day and a bar tender by night to sponsor his education
She wouldn't dare introduce him to anybody in her family as a friend
She couldn't
He had lofty dreams
Sometimes he got into her head with his dreams
He ignited her imagination
And made her coo
If there was one thing she
could bet on!
It would be that he would be a tremendous success in life
He had the discipline
The intelligence and the drive
He had already won her Friend's father over
Her friend's father had promised to sponsor his university education if he passed as expected!
She loved him
That first week
Whenever he called her phone
She would run into her room and lock the door
She was too ashamed to let anyone know she was talking to him!
It was awkward
They were not birds of a feather
She was born a falcon
He was born an egret
He was just not in her class...
They talked daily for two weeks
One Saturday evening she went for a drive
He called
She told him she was driving round the estate
He asked her if he could come meet up with her
She didn't know Lagos so well and didn't want to risk leaving the estate
She told him where she was!
He arrived within twenty minutes
They sat together in the backseat of her father's car
He didn't see the money
All he saw was her
She liked that
Everyone in her life
Even her parents, judged everything by its financial worth
She did too
But not him
He didn't have enough to care
He kissed her
His eyes shinning
She knew she was giving him an achievement
Something to boast about
He would never have thought it possible
They were worlds apart
He kissed her again
She kissed him back
The kiss was good but she sensed his hesitation
He didn't want to go too far!
She guided his hands
It was her decision to make and she had decided!
Clothes were moved out of the way
It was her first time
It was his first time too
A lot of fun and giggles
They eventually fitted the key into the keyhole
It was glorious
They both eagerly cleaned up afterward
The tissue box in her father's car was exhausted
It was fun
He was the unthinkable
She was the unthinking one
He left her around 9pm
She went home giddy with joy
The next day she panicked
She thought she could be pregnant
He told her not worry
He was careful not to mess her up
Wow!
He cared
She wanted to do it properly
She told her parents she was going for a show
She went to a hotel and invited him over
She satisfied herself with him
Christmas day came
They celebrated apart
Her father hosted a party at home
There was no escape at all
She missed him!
She saw him on boxing day
Another hotel
They spent all day together
She was supposed to be at the movies
She and her parents went to their hometown for the new year party with the extended family
She didn't see him for five days
It felt like 50 years
She returned home
Time ran
They saw twice before she went back to the USA
On the final day she wished him well
There was no future for them
He got it
He said thank you
She cried
He told her she had done for him more than he could ever imagine
She offered him some money
He declined!
That was how it ended
The following year
She had graduated
He was in 100 level!
He was still a cleaner and a bar tender
She came home for the holidays
She called him
They did the dance all over
They had to
This time there was no teary farewell
It was just sex!
She left in January
They both moved on!
She couldn't travel home for
the next few years
She needed to get her citizenship papers
She met a guy
A Nigerian guy
She got into a serious relationship with the guy
Marriage season!
Time had diminished her sinful
Imagination about him
She knew he would have moved on for real
She returned home in 2016 with her fiance to do her introduction
She was twenty six
She last saw him when she was twenty one
Her phone rang on a Thursday evening
It was him
Their conversation was full of joy and laughter
Someone told him she was around
He wanted to see her!
She went to see him
He waited for her at the same hotel
He had booked a room
She told him she was engaged
She felt it would dampen his interest
He didn't act as if he heard
He led her by hand into the room
She shuddered with pleasure at his touch
She couldn't make sense of it!
He made no demand
They were ex-lovers
And yet, it was as if they didn't stop
She wanted to ask him what they were doing
She didn't know how to define it
What were they doing?
When she got home she broken off her engagement
She just couldn't go through with it
She hated herself!
She traveled in January
She didn't call him
He didn't call her
She returned in December 2017
She tried to call him
She has decided to have a talk with him this time
Define what they were doing
His phone number didn't go through
His family had moved
She searched all over the
Social media for him
Typed several variations of his name on google
He was gone
She fell ill throughout the holidays
She was just miserable
On January 3, two days before she would go back to the USA
The old students of her secondary school were having a reunion
She decided to go
Her car got faulty on her way to the venue
She was driving through a residential area due to traffic
Her car had blocked the main hate of a building
She popped the bonnet
The gate opened
Someone wanted to drive out
Her car was on the way
The person approached her
It was him
It was crazy
He invited her into his flat
He called his mechanic
As soon as she stepped into his flat she started crying
It felt so good to see him
He hugged her
The mechanic came and fixed the car
The car was parked properly
She returned to his flat
...sound of music
She didn't leave his flat that night
She took him home the next day
She introduced him to everybody as her man
He was happy
He proposed as he drove her to the airport
She said YES!

Ps: They are getting married this Saturday
She say he was always an eagle, she just didn't see it
