in case you're new, i criticize democrats for not being tough or fast enough. this doesn't mean i support republicans and in fact it is because i think republicans are a threat to america that i dont think a mediocre democratic response apparatus is good enough.
i want the democrats to be so quick to the punch and so vicious that critics like me say "whoa, guys, that might be too much and a little over the line." we are nowhere remotely near that and its not even on the horizon for the near future.
oh and i dont think muting criticism until some unspecified future peace time is of any use. if you're in a war you don't wait until the war is over to tell your army that they're fighting the war wrong.

2/ The strongest args #GOP makes - #Trump not caught on tape saying he was abusing his office for his personal gain. Ukraine history of corruption & publicly denied pressure. But you have to suspend reason & ignore a boatload of evidence to conclude he did nothing impeachable.
3/ #GOP on 7/25 call -#Trump didn’t reference reelection, Ukrainians happy it happened. #Volker didn’t see problem, NSC not complaining. Discounts #LtColVindman. Ignores #Pence aide thought it was “unusual” & #LauraCooper said Ukraine asked abt aid status same day after the call

You know, things like "the Senate won't convict..." "It's too divisive..." "Trump is goading Dems..." and so on.

FACT: It doesn't matter what the Senate does. The Constitution demands impeachment.
SPIN: Democrats need to gather more evidence to make an airtight case for impeachment.

With regard to Trump/Russia & #impeachment, here are things that remain true:

[THEAD]
1/ Trump’s surrogates, both in & out of the campaign proper, had many, many, MANY illicit meetings with Russians. One of the meetings took place at Trump Tower & included Trump’s son, son-in-law, & campaign chair, who hosted the sit-down with known Putin assets. Collusion? Da!
2/ Trump’s entire time in office has been one long obstruction of justice operation. Indeed, obstructing justice is the only thing he’s been successful at.

2. As with most issues before Congress, substance and politics are closely related but distinguishable. As to substance, the argument -- persuasive to me -- is that obstruction of justice, contacts with Russians seeking to influence a US election, corruption and the rest...
3...will do mortal damage to American democracy if tolerated. Not proceeding toward impeachment proceedings means tolerating all of these things, though it is possible to deceive oneself on that point. The political argument @NateSilver538 makes is about American voters.
