I've always had a tiny, puritanical feeling (which I wouldn't endorse rationally) that voting should be just slightly difficult, to mark the gravity of the act. So I'm happy to say I've spent an hour & a half combing the streets for a polling station I thought was somewhere else.
As ever, the public rose magnificently to the occasion, sending me up hills, down dales & to every point on the compass, with a can-do spirit of which the prime minister would be proud. Crowds gathered on corners to share ideas. One elderly gent thought he'd "seen it as a child".
When I finally limped into the room it was to cast a proxy vote for a party I don't much like. As I dropped my ballot into the box, the teller said "There! That could be the winning vote!" "I sincerely hope not!" I replied sternly, to the evident confusion of the waiting voters.
