Breast cancer at any age is a tragedy. And with so many diagnosed, it's a public health and social justice crisis. Young and older women are patronized, both experience ageism in breast cancer. How will #SABCS19 address the systemic issues at the root of breast cancer inequities?
There is ageism at both ends of the spectrum. Many women under 30 are told they're too young for breast cancer, go home. And data shows women 70+ aren't benefiting from current treatment advances. It's not a zero sum game. We need better options, and better care for all. #SABCS19
The reality for too many women living with & at risk of breast cancer is they are patronized, their symptoms are minimized, and treatments fail them. Hoped for treatment breakthroughs at #SABCS19 don't work if patients can't afford them & if docs aren't responsive to patients
