One of the unexpected advantages of being an homeschooling parent is that I discovered tons of material that any parent can use even if he or she is not homeschooling (in fact I use it with my other kids who are not homeschooled). Here are some of the main "gems" ...
1) Susan Bauer's "History of the World" series is so much joy (welltrainedmind.com/landing/story-…). I now read it to my kids at night when they go to sleep. They love the stories and they learn history while having fun.
2) Outschool.com (@outschool) is a web site where instructors teach virtual classes. They meet online using video conferencing software like Zoom and teach kids specific courses. You can find all sort of material, from standard Biology to Entrepreneurship for kids.
3) Khan Academy (@khanacademy) has lots of video lectures and tests with automated scoring. We do math with it and we love it. Parents have a dashboard to follow their children's progress and to see where they need extra help. My son loves it because it feels like a game.
4) The "Fallacy Detective" (amazon.com/Fallacy-Detect…) is a book to teach critical thinking to children. It's fun, informative and witty. Every chapter focuses on one fallacy and has fun exercises at the end. My son is always about: "these are all the fallacies my brothers commit!"
I have much more, but these are those that are high on my list right now. Feel free to contact me if you are curious and want more information! These resources made homeschooling a joy and I am deeply grateful they exist.
