Sorted out finances (mostly), long debate with family on where to focus all our charitable investment - general conclusion across the family is the Trussel Trust. Something for me to start this week.

Me : There's oodles of potential ... naturally fracked basins (See Horizon Energy), shale, trade deal with US etc. I'm personally in favour of WTO leave but a decent EU trade deal is fine. This isn't the problem though ...
... the problem will come from distribution. The benefits are unlikely to be felt by everyone ... I suspect for some that life will become much harder. This is why we need to help the most vulnerable.

Me : Bizarre question. Depends upon so many things, some of which you can't anticipate. Why are you asking?
X : Rough hours to be successful?
Me : Successful in what? Define success? Define work? Also starting conditions.
Me : This is all context specific and has perspective mixed in.
X : How?
Me : A couple I know always grumble about being overworked and lack of success. They earn about $500k between them and define work to include "going to lunches", "beauty treatments" and "time in gym".
... their "positions" are almost entirely due to the family they were born into. Others would not unreasonably consider them unbelievably lucky (or even spoilt) and their idea of work is what some would call a holiday.

Me : You can adapt and survive on top of Amazon but I assume you're asking whether Amazon will fail?
X : Yes.
Me : Time will do it. Eventually Bezos et al will pass away then Mckinsey muppets will take over and it will fail.
But it will be called a success as they engage in profit extraction with the corresponding rocketing of share price until residual value has been taken after which customers will seek safe havens causing a decline in revenues that leads to cost cutting and the spiral of doom.
Of course, consultants make money on the profit extraction (often value based fees), on market reports (to explain revenue decline) and finally re-organisation fees and cost cutting exercises. Trebles all round.
