1. Some very smart people, notably @michelleinbklyn & @mattyglesias, have been calling for protest movements to support the cause of impeachment. An in fact, groups like Indivisible are pushing for an Impeachment Eve marches. But worth thinking about the goal here.
2. As @dana_fisher has shown in her research on anti-Trump protests, the big marches of Trump era have been sparked by outrage at specific things (Trump's election, immigration, attempted ACA repeal). With impeachment, outrage should be about GOP as much as Trump
3. There's been a certain tampering down of protests after the first big one, the woman's march. But impeachment offers an occasion to recharge protest efforts under an umbrella that brings together disparate grounds for outrage.
4. House Democrats are pursuing a narrow impeachment strategy but protest movement doesn't have to: protesters can (and should) bring up wider case against Trump. And also focus pressure on Senate GOP. More thoughts here: thenation.com/article/impeac…
5. Correction: the scholar of Trump protests (and author of the fine book American Resistance) is @Fisher_DanaR
