The UK trade policy battle for the year to come - is it more about the politics of Brexit, with any concession to the EU seen as Brexit in Name Only, or will economics and the views of business start to play a role? This article goes for the first... blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/12/how-bo…
Four years of Brexit bickering means we have a big problem of trust which a big Conservative majority doesn't remove - leave ultras who think business asks of close EU relations are just remain in a new form, business struggling to see any upside in NZ, Aus, US trade deals
The government has given itself little time to make the many decisions on the politics and economics of the UK that are inherent in trade deals. Every sign is that the impacts won't be well considered with obvious risk (Withdrawal Agreement / Northern Ireland the precedent)
Incidentally no trade deal with the EU will also mean no trade deal with Turkey. Lower regulatory alignment with the EU will mean lower regulatory alignment with Switzerland, Norway and other non-EU European countries.
