This morning, @BrennanCenter released "Preparing for Cyberattacks and Technical Failures: A Guide for Election Officials. brennancenter.org/our-work/polic…
@BrennanCenter This comes out days after Congressional leaders announced a budget deal that included $425 million to states for election security.
@BrennanCenter Implementing the recommendations in the report will cost a tiny fraction of that money, but will go a long way to creating effective resiliency plans to safeguard against election disruptions that could be caused by a success cyberattack against our election infrastructure
@BrennanCenter I'm proud to have developed these recommendations with my colleagues Gowri Ramachandran, and former election officials @lizhoward and Edgardo Cortes, after consultation with many current and former election officials, as well aso other experts and advocates, over several months.
@BrennanCenter @lizhoward For those who don't feel like reading the whole report (or who want a quick reference after reading the report), we also have this handy checklist.
brennancenter.org/sites/default/…
@BrennanCenter @lizhoward Among the key recommendations are how to prevent and recover from electronic pollbook, voter registration, voter equipment and election night reporting failures and outages.
@BrennanCenter @lizhoward The critical thing is that we should have ways to ensure voters can cast ballots with confidence they will be counted, even in the face of unexpected disruptions. And that should make everyone feel better about 2020.
@BrennanCenter @lizhoward The key between now and next November is to make sure these plans are in place. @BrennanCenter will be working with our state allies and election officials around the country next year to make sure this happens.
