This tweet makes me think, with great sadness and fear, about a person I love, who is trans, and who has the same right to be treated with dignity in the workplace and elsewhere as you and I and indeed @jk_rowling.
@jk_rowling I tweeted about the decision this morning. It is not about Maya's right to hold a belief. It is about whether Maya has a right to articulate that belief to her colleagues, a belief hurtful to them, and have that conduct protected by law.
I should add, to be clear and fair, that the Decision is a preliminary decision and doesn't make detailed findings of fact. But I don't see any suggestion in the skeletal findings that Maya went out of her way to be unkind to her colleagues or in a work setting.
Worth noting that Maya lost because of her absolutism. With a more nuanced, a more considerate, a less extreme approach, she may well have won.
This is a sphere that requires all of those qualities.
