Just the President's grown son circulating inflammatory disinformation on Twitter that puts this Congressman's life at risk. No biggie.
If our social media overlords don't get more serious about how far right disinformation networks are weaponizing their platforms, then they are aiding and abetting this toxic, democracy-destroying bullsh*t.
And also, JV Trump's line about "big government programs making people dependent" when speaking about a black Congressman is straight out of Reagan's racist "welfare queen" lingo. While the Trumps are distinctly pathological, their cruelty squares with longstanding GOP dogma.
GOP Base on Trump's lies:
Fool me once, shame on me
Fool me twice, he was just joking
Fool me thrice, well, it owned the libs!
Fool me 4 times, it's all part of the plan
Fool me 5 times, he owned the libs...again!!!
Fool me 6 times, at least we're all saying Merry Christmas now!
Fool me 7 times, I mean, do we *really* know what's true?

Fool me 9 times, I understand why he's so mad, look at how unfairly he's been treated!
Fool me 10 times, he's never lied to me before, so why shouldn't I believe him?

I would love to hear Jr talk some more about outrage culture, Twitter mobs, and how triggered some snowflakes can get.
Just so we're clear on what just happened. There will now be millions of Americans for whom the statement "a Democrat Congressman called for Trump to be hanged" is just true, and they won't hear otherwise. Just like Obama is a Muslim, and was born in Kenya.

One reason I became a historian is that I was the impressionable age of eight during the bicentennial and received this book from my grandparents. It was the 1619 Project of its day. Thank god that 1976 book is no longer how we teach kids about the past. archive.org/details/200yea…
What most drew me in were the pictures, which are really engaging and can be read in a host of different ways.
But take a second to read the first page. Note how the story opens, whose shoes the reader is asked to put themselves in, and what lessons we're encouraged to draw about the Civil War.

Honest question. What’s the deal with “The Rising?” It’s a political talk show hosted by Hill TV. I see many Twitter progressives linking to it, yet The Hill is owned by a big Trump supporter. cnn.com/2019/11/18/med…
The Rising has featured conspiracy theorist Jimmy Dore. They also seem very into Gabbard and Sanders, but decidedly cool on Warren. Am I right to be suspicious, given their far right, Trumpy funding?
I have no reason to suspect the motives of the people on air, but the motives of the funder seem sketchy. What’s a guy like this trying to accomplish by producing a “progressive” show? Is it purely a business decision?

A long-serving GOP state legislator is the author of a widely circulated right wing treatise that “called for replacing the U.S. government with a theocracy, as well as the ‘killing of all males who don’t agree.’” He’s been re-elected multiple times. crosscut.com/2019/12/wa-rep…
This is the apocalyptic telos to which Shea’s heady brew of 2nd Amendment edgelordism and evangelical fundamentalism point. He’s the ultimate conservative culture warrior.
So when you hear more benign-seeming conservatives like Mike Pence talk about “the culture war,” think about Shea and his many, many, armed supporters. They may disagree on short term means, but they almost entirely agree on the long term ends.

@Twitter 3/ there has been a talk of thawing in the relationship between Qatar and Saudi, after Saudi (and 4 other countries) initiated a blockaded of Qatar in 2017. Whoever is behind this hashtag clearly wants to demonstrate that a thaw is certainly not on the horizon.

2. Disinformation is a set of propositions that are introduced into the belief structure of a person in order to bring that person to advance the goals of someone other than that person.
3. If #disinformation is the #virus then #socialmedia is the delivery device. So when people connect to social media, what is the firewall or anti-virus system that protects their belief set? You might say “critical thinking.”....

1/ It’s simple to note: One has to subtract before adding. Give up what’s bad, before thinking about adding what’s good. True for habits, food, news and everything else.
#life 2/ We live in a world with many apparent "signals”.

We’re consuming:
- More info/news/entertainment
- More food
- More social networking
- More things to-do/work...

…than prior generations. It’s making us lazy and critically, disengaged.
#life 3/ It’s unclear what the signal to noise ratio is - it’s a function of one’s own consumption habits.

And separately, we’re prone to setting additional goals too:
- Read good books
- Eat a healthy diet
- Have fewer but better friends
- Work smart
