What do you think those seven dwarves were supposed to be? You know, the ones in the story where they're protecting a lady named... oh wow this is awkward
And vampires, the ones who drink blood and are banished by crosses? I'm sure that's just a coincidence though lol
Rachel Bloom was on top of this years ago. Check out 1:20 or so
The Walking Dead is a paranoid pro-border cowboy fantasy and they don't even try to hide it. Zombies are stand-ins for everything from xenophobic fears around immigration to contempt for consumer culture
Those goblins were pretty tough to take though I gotta say. Also dwarves (and gully dwarves) in the Dragonlance books. 😬
If you think this is tiresome try living in my head for a while. All my favorite former escapes from reality are just horribly problematic now. I'm glad I discovered thoughtful, smart speculative fiction from authors who don't buy into this but it's still annoyingly prevalent
And this isn't just me doing SJW signaling or whatever; I am deeply troubled by the laziness of the tropes. There are other, far better ways to write stories, as we are seeing - at long last - now.
