Finding a job in tech can be hard. (A thread)

Really hard.

I’ve been rejected from dozens of jobs that I thought I was well qualified for in my tech career so far.

For me, this has been happening mid career — not when I first changed careers from science to tech.
I was once rejected for a front end engineering position. They told me I didn’t have enough engineering experience, but that I was “a great communicator” and asked if they could contact me if anything opened up in communications.

I wonder if they’d have said that if I was male?
I landed my first three tech jobs in a row 3/3. After that, it became really difficult. Once I’d been an engineering lead for years, had significant architecture experience, and was looking at intermediate and senior positions, suddenly I was being rejected right and left.
Rejected for everything. Rejected for positions I knew I was qualified (and occasionally overqualified) for.

I started feeling worthless. Was my entire career and all my accomplishments and lived experience just a sham?
I’m sharing this because I want you to know if you’re having a tough time finding a job in tech, you are not alone.

No matter where you are in your career, you’re not alone. I support you. You can do it.

We can do it. ❤️
