I loved the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker opened with that huge montage of Rey, Finn & Poe going from world to world rallying Resistance sympathizers to their cause, people inspired by the legend of Luke Skywalker, kicking off a full-scale uprising against the First Order.

Loved that.
I loved the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker explored how the First Order was collapsing from the inside under the command of an increasingly out-of-control Kylo Ren, and how Hux and the other generals tried to wrestle control away from him and his Knights Of Ren.

Loved that.
I loved the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker had Finn become the rallying point for conscripted stormtroopers inspired by his escape who wanted to break free of the First Order and fight back against them, giving him a truly meaningful role in this final showdown.

Loved that.
I loved the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker had Rey, the last Jedi, seeking out other force-sensitive people to join the cause all while creating a new Jedi legacy, knowing that in the end she'll need to be the one to defeat Kylo and the Knights Of Ren.

Loved that.
I love the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker had Rey adopt Luke's new Jedi principles, focusing on non-violent defensive techniques over attack, teaching the new Jedi to protect what they love, not fight what they hate, and to let compassion guide them, as it did Luke.

Loved that.
I loved the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker explored how Rey, Rey from nowhere, struggles to be the figurehead of the new Rebellion, and how she lives through constant internal conflict over how to forge her own destiny and find her place among the heroes that surround her.

Loved that.
I think I just love the way #TheRiseOfSkywalker used every idea set up and made possible by The Last Jedi in order to break truly new and unique ground for a Star Wars movie, creating a spectacular & emotional finale that builds on all that came before.

Loved that.
Hey, I'm all for subversion!

One of my favorite things about The Last Jedi is how it bends the very linear ideas & arcs of The Force Awakens into bold new directions, but Rise Of Skywalker doesn't really do that; it just starts playing with cards that were never on the table
#TheRiseOfSkywalker SPOILERS #TROSspoilers

I mostly like where we end up thematically; the Sith gone, the Jedi buried and Rey, embodying both light & dark, adopting the moniker of Skywalker to symbolise the union of both sides within her, but everything else before that... 😬
I'll forever stand by "Rey. Just Rey" being infinitely more powerful.
