HOW TO SPOT AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY.

I'm back. Partly though. Still very busy, but I spent some time last night thinking about the word opportunity and I want to share with you my thoughts.

Today we will look at what opportunity is, and how to take advantage of it.

One thing I learnt from my mentor is the importance of understanding the root meaning of every word.

And so we will do same for opportunity

The Latin word for opportunity is 'opportunitas.'

It comes from two root words-
'Ob Portus'

Ob, which means 'towards'

Portus, meaning 'port'

The phrase ob portus was used by sailors in the early century.

It was used to describe the best wind, tide, current, speed etc they needed yo apply to safely move towards

and arrive at the port.

'Ob portus' was a navigation term and helped sailors at sea stay on course.

Opportunity is a navigation tool!

Opportunity is not just a compass, it is a combination of skill, grit and gut

Opportunity is a circumstance whose odds are in your favour.

It is a situation that presents you with an open door that hasn't always been there.

It presents you with the power to do now what you probably couldn't do before.

People who know how to spot opportunity and take/

/ advantage of it always end up winning.

The rich don't teach their children how to hustle or suffer, they actually teach them how to seize opportunity.

Making money isn't by hard work. If it were, the bricklayers and truck pushers or even 'iron benders' should be tops

Opportunity is always the currency with which you exchange for riches.

Opportunity has 3 elements. I call them the 3 C's of opportunity.
They are:

1. CHANCE

This is simply the possibility of something happening.

Opportunity always presents a possibility and that is why you

need to have a positive mindset to see it.

The possibility may present itself as a problem or a challenge.

It always comes as a gap that needs to be filled.

The second element is:

2. CHOICE

Every opportunity will present you with a choice. To take it or not to take it

And when you do take it, you will also need to make choices as you explore that opportunity:

Who to involve
How much to involve etc.

With opportunity comes a choice to be made.

And the 3rd element I

3. CONSEQUENCE

This is the result of whatever choice you made when you had

the chance.

Opportunity presents us with a chance to make a choice that brings consequences.

Before I talk about how to spot opportunity, let's look at 3 things you should note about opportunity

1. Opportunity is time bound!

Let's use the body of a woman as an analogy

I presume you know a woman had several cycles in a month and the fertile cycle is when she ovulates and that is when she can conceive and have a child.

As soon as she is off her fertile period, nothing can happen.

You need to realise that opportunity has a window during which

the odds are in your favour.

2. Opportunity helps to maximize efforts.

Back to our analogy using the woman's body.

If a man meets his wife when she is not fertile (ovulating), it doesn't matter the effort he puts in, nothing will happen.

He can choose to pound hard like he is pounding yam in harmattan, nothing will happen.

Even if he like, he can hang her leg on the ceiling and give her the reverse martial arts style, fa fa fa... fau.

But once she is in her period, he only needs to go in and boom.

Even if he doesn't exert energy, as long as his seed meets her egg, there'll be a result.

That is how opportunity is.

It directs your efforts and makes you achieve more with less.

3. Opportunity requires skill.

If you don't have it, outsource it.

You need competence.

You can't solve a problem with the same mindset that created it.

You have to elevate your mind.

How then do you spot an opportunity?

Simple: Listen to what people are complaining about.

Problems always reveal opportunity. Always.

When the border was closed against the importation if rice, there were complaints and grumblings.

But I know people who took advantage of that situation and became millionaires.

Whilst people were complaining, someone was making money.

Learn to pay attention to the complains

of people.

What do they wish they had?

What are they itching for?

You need to learn to step back from the grumbling crowd, and find the gap.

Even yourself, the things you complain about are opportunities waiting to be explored.

If they are affecting you, they are probably

affecting a lot other people.
