Lab and the LD are struggling to come to terms with the 2019 GE result. Both parties are soul-searching. Why did their message not resonate with voters? How can they ensure that they do better next time?

The task in this Parliament is to provide strong opposition to Johnson. Next, to seek to win the next GE.
Both tasks will be easier if Lab and LD unite. 2/

Before the last GE there was talk of a Government of National Unity, electoral pacts, a 'remain alliance', etc, and then of tactical voting with the aim of denying Johnson a majority. 3/
But Lab and the Lib Dems continued to fight each other, agreed to the GE, and then proceeded to allow Johnson's slogans to carry the day. 4/
If this continues (and the signs are that it will), the opposition will be less effective than it could be; and... the next GE will be more difficult to win than the one in 2019. 5/
Of course, I know all the reasons why it will be said that this won't and can't happen. But, unless it does, Opposition parties are just going to keep on losing. 6/
How about (perhaps) uniting now; and committing to introduce a PR system after the next GE? 7/7
