at the risk of getting into the middle of a partisan pie fight, I have a bit of a different take and focus on the uproar over Facebook's announcement last night. Reminder, @drewharwell reported the Pelosi video was spread by Facebook for 31 hours. Some thoughts from me. /1
me: "We're entirely at risk here in letting Facebook turn this into a censorship debate while ignoring the fact these videos only receive their velocity and reach due to Facebook's algorithm and recommendations not because they're simply allowed to exist." /2
"There is a lot of garbage on the Internet. The Pelosi video would be a tree in an empty forest if not for Facebook's algorithms which are also the source of Facebook's immense profits." /3
So my point being, don't let Facebook proactively create a very partisan censorship debate around politics 24 hours before their key executive testifies in front of @HouseCommerce. It's the algorithms that give these videos reach and velocity and made $70 billion in past year. /4

Also reminder @HouseCommerce, Facebook's exec tmw also sat idle why per colleague misled @CommonsCMS on Cambridge Analytica in Feb 2018, one month b4 all hell broke loose for FB. She also was counsel for FB in controversial antitrust matters in the leaked six4three docs. /end
@HouseCommerce @CommonsCMS here is a thread regarding Facebook exec testifying tomorrow. It sure would be nice if @HouseCommerce @USRepKCastor @CathyMcMorrisRodgers asked her about her presence in the docs now on table in antitrust investigations.
@HouseCommerce @CommonsCMS @USRepKCastor Facebook's Monika Bickert always overlooks her role as legal counsel in charge of platform enforcement (deciding which FB apps were competitive threats). Her written for tomorrow hearing and leaked 2013 email. This is all super relevant to antitrust case. docs.house.gov/meetings/IF/IF…
Speaking of online deception, the hearing started featuring Facebook’s counsel who also co-testified when FB said Cambridge Analytica didn’t have their data one month before admitting they did and on leaked memos of Facebook shutting down competitor apps. energycommerce.house.gov/committee-acti…
