In my view, retaliation for the sake of retaliation is not necessary at this time.

What is necessary is to lay out our strategic objectives regarding Iran in a simple and firm fashion.
Our objectives:

▶️ Iran must stop being the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world.

▶️ Stop ballistic missile buildup which jeopardizes regional stability.

▶️ Negotiate a nuclear deal which provides nuclear power to Iran while dismantling a pathway to a bomb.
The Maximum Pressure campaign with a credible military component is not only working, it’s the best way to achieve our strategic goals.

I’m very pleased the Senate has rejected Democrats’ request to call additional witnesses after the House chose not to.

As I have stated, this is not an impeachable offense and the witnesses sought by the House managers were available to them in the House.
Their testimony would not change the fact that this is a non-impeachable offense and not the kind of event the Founding Fathers had in mind when it comes to removing a president and preventing them from running for reelection.
The fact is the House chose not to call witnesses like John Bolton because they wanted to impeach President Trump before the election.

It has nothing to do with finding the truth.

Of all the insane things being said about this impeachment debacle - and there is a lot to choose from - one of the most ridiculous is to say Senate Republicans are “Blocking Witnesses.”

This is an outrageous claim.
FACT:

It was the House of Representatives who refused to pursue the testimony of the witnesses because they wanted to impeach the President before Christmas.

Only in Washington would someone call that decision “Blocking Witnesses.”
In most of America it’s called: #YourOwnFault.

It is my opinion, based on the law and facts, that additional testimony is unnecessary in this case.
For the sake of argument, one could assume everything attributable to John Bolton is accurate and still the House case would fall well below the standards to remove a president from office.
It is clear to me that there is ample evidence for the President to be concerned about conflicts of interest on behalf of Hunter Biden and that Vice President Joe Biden’s failure to take appropriate action was unacceptable.

Contradiction: The mullahs (Majd’s bosses) welcomed & facilitated the 1953 coup d’état that ousted Mossadegh.

■ Obama never would do anything to hinder #Iran, let alone strike directly

■ Even on PJW's terms, Trump can hardly claim credit for sparing people from orders he gave, BUT

■ Trump never gave orders to attack; this is messaging in search of a summit and "better deal"
DoD prepared contingencies for strikes on #Iran, and Trump turned them down when asked for approval.

Some officials got the impression on the day Trump supported strikes, but in the middle of that day he also said Iran's attack could be an "accident". washingtonpost.com/politics/i-sto…
Note: nothing got past the planning stage.

Trump never gave an order to attack #Iran that was revoked.

The administration's spinning it that way in the aftermath via the controlled leak is part of the attempt to gain leverage without actually doing anything to get to new talks.
