Fact. It’s not simple. The photo is processed using facial recognition technology software for comparison against a database.

Fact. This is untrue. The Minister is not arguing with a political view. The Data Protection Commissioner is the independent regulator, with the authority to make binding decisions on govt.

SR @Alston_UNSR, what we see around the world, governments developing surveillance systems don't subject the middle class to the issues. that 'we have problems with the poor - welfare fraud, crime etc' means the poor are very often guinea pigs for new programs.

#Thread based on witness accounts of 6 girls (my roommate's sister & friends) reached my one room home in morning who were present in protests:

1) Protest was completely peaceful. We were shouting slogans such as "Awaaz do hum ek hain", "Tiranga humara hai, Modi Awara hai", 1/n
"Modivaad se azaadi", "We want justice". No anti Hindu slogans were raised. We just wanted to march to parliament.

2) Jamia doesn't have a union, student president etc, we never do protests like JNU. Yet when JNU, DU protests, no one enters their campuses, but they entered ours!
Is it because we are a Muslim university? (This is been said by Hindu girls by the way).

3. The police beating us in protests were in jeans and Tshirts, wearing anti riots gear. We don't even know if they were police or miscreants. Just like miscreants may have entered protests

#Thread My talk last night with @OutlawHistorian has inspired me, so-- here is a #japanesehistory thread about ashigaru, as an introduction for those who haven't heard the term before.

This is a beloved topic of mine, because as you'll see, it's a grey area in Japanese history.
So. "Samurai" is a catch-all term used more in the west than in Japanese. These terms vary, but the short answer is that samurai were low ranking members of the warrior caste, and warriors in general were called bushi. All samurai are bushi, but only some bushi are samurai.
Ashigaru 足軽 is spelled "foot-light." Different clans and regions used terms differently, of course, but generally speaking, ashigaru are a gray area. They were part of feudal armies and part of lordly retinues in the Edo period (1600-1868), but were they bushi?

Hmmm...

Maria birthed 3 beautiful girls, two of whom are twins. Maria has struggled all her life but she's always wanted her babies to get an education even though she didn't have such privilege. Thankfully, she got married to a hardworking man who also has the same belief.
Maria sells cheap biscuits and candies on the road at Eko Idumota. These goods are placed in a small tray, while she alternates between sitting and standing to attract customers, at the end of the day, Maria may turn over N2,000

#Thread Here's an incredible story about a young man who was busy with loading and unloading in #KeralaFloods relief centres. Only days later people came to know that he was none other than, Kannan Gopinathan, the Collector of Dadra & Nagar Haveli! (1/n)
He travelled in KSRTC buses and covered 5 districts in 10 days without revealing identity. He took leave for serving his homeland in the time of crisis. Kannan is a native of Kottayam. Even his relatives were not aware of his unofficial visit! (2/n)
It was only after Eranakulam Collector Y.Safirulla's visit to centre at KBPS press, the volunteers of the camp came to know that the guy who was helping in loading goods was an IAS officer! (3/n)
