Trumpism is a cult that has elevated an incompetent failure of a man to the status of messiah. Its members are increasingly isolated from their families, their communities, and reality itself.

It’s not a movement, it’s not a political moment, it’s a cult that has been formed from years of white identity, religious nationalism that has distorted history and reality for political and economic power. This isn’t tinfoil hat territory. It’s a reckoning with truth.
American history, as has been told, is a myth of exceptionalism positioning the US as God’s chosen champion. It’s a lie that has fractured reality. As that becomes more obvious, the people still holding onto the myth for dear life are giving themselves to Trump as a savior.
Like all cults, Trumpists need their leader to maintain their identities and their realities. He’s taking them down a dark road and is twisting reality for them on a daily basis, reprogramming them to be utterly and ceaselessly malleable.
And like cults, this is a breakaway sect from an established religion, in this case white identity Christian nationalism, a church of American exceptionalism. Trump’s taken the helm as a new prophet and guided the manifesting gospel.
We’re in denial about Trumpism as a cult because so many still cling to remnants of American exceptionalism and because the truth is horrifying. But again, until we recognize it’s a cult, a deadly cult, we’re not going to get past this crisis and we’re not going to progress.
