I suspect that what's going on is a combination of racism and ideological blinders. Big urban areas have lots of immigrants and nonwhites in general, plus they're run by bleeding-heart liberals, so they must be crime-ridden hellholes. Don't believe your lying eyes! 4/

Trump's deficitpalooza is giving the economy as much stimulus now as it was getting in 2012, when the unemployment rate was 8%. Imagine what Obama's economy would have looked like if Rs and Very Serious People had let him run deficits that big 3/

My new book isn't about impeachment, obviously; it's not even all that much about Trump. But the ghastly performance of Senate Rs wouldn't have happened if zombies hadn't eaten their brains 1/
Think about the things you have to believe, or pretend to believe, to be a Republican politician in good standing. You have to claim that tax cuts for the rich pay for themselves; that climate change is a hoax, or at any rate that nothing can be done about it; etc., etc. 2/
The result is that anyone with actual principles has been driven out of the party. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who is left is a cynical opportunist. Of course they will defend Trump no matter what; their careers are all that matter 3/

Social conservatives should stop banging on about free speech.

Any traditional worldview, including even the tepid conservatism that dominated Western culture before the 1960s, would involve vastly more restriction on free speech than currently exist.
